Manchester United And PSG can work more actively than others.
The January transfer window is in full swing, but as expected, we are not seeing any major deals. Clubs don’t want to lose players in the middle of the season and have to spend decent amounts of money on decent reinforcements, which not everyone can afford, especially in the context of financial fair play. So why not pay attention to an option like exchanges? Historically, they are quite difficult to achieve. Many factors must be brought together: from the interest of both clubs in each other’s players to the desire to release these same players, including the consent of the players themselves. Yet, under financial pressure, trades could prove viable mid-season. Let’s look at some examples that could be completely realistic now.
Randal Kolo Muani (PSG) and Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea)
Kolo Muani was quite officially on the list of those with whom PSG wants to break up. Even though a year and a half ago, the Parisians spent the whole summer looking for the striker and paid the crazy sum of 80 million euros for him. Things haven’t gone as planned for him in Paris, but he’s still a great player, so he could strengthen a club in need of a center forward. Cost can be a stumbling block. But this is where the exchange comes in handy.
Nkunku is not only French, he is also an academy graduate PSGwhich can be beautifully presented. Christopher has become one of the victims of Chelsea’s buying spree. Now he is no longer part of the main team, sometimes replacing them. This role clearly does not match the caliber of talent. And the Londoners were just looking for a center forward – even before Nicholas Jackson played. He is playing now, but he could also lose his form again. And this is where the impact forward comes in handy. Why not try Kolo Muani?
Davide Frattesi (Inter) and Lorenzo Pellegrini (Roma)
This is one of the deals that has actually been discussed between the parties. Its realism is therefore even higher than that of many rumors based on rumors. Since joining Inter in 2023, Frattesi has been a top player, but has never played the decisive role he would have liked. Today, he is clearly disappointed with his situation. On the other hand, Pellegrini has long been a symbol of Roma, but recently his status in the team has declined. And he probably doesn’t feel as good.
Such a trade could shake up and revive the careers of two talented midfielders who are clearly capable of more than they let on. Pellegrini can compete for titles with Inter and Frattesi can play one of the main roles in the iconic club. In addition, all kinds of exchanges and rotations of players are not uncommon in Italian clubs.
Douglas Louis (Juventus) and Joshua Zirkzee (Manchester United)
Both players have made high-profile moves this summer, but neither of them are doing well. Zirkzee is not finding his game, in the match against Newcastle (0:2), he was replaced in the 33rd minute under the whistle at Old Trafford. Things are not going better for Luiz: in Turin he has only played two Serie A matches.
Of course, the two can always try to stay and turn things around. But they can also relaunch their careers in more familiar conditions. Louis, for example, played brilliantly for Aston Villa. He can strengthen the center of the field Manchester United – what Ruben Amorim’s team needs. He knows the battles of nuclear submarine. And Zirkzee knows Serie A very well, from where he was taken to Manchester. Juventus simply don’t have enough goals. And Joshua could organize them in a familiar environment.
Milan Skriniar (PSG) and Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid’s defensive center hasn’t looked optimal for a long time: either David Alaba or Eder Militao are injured. And very serious ones. Aurélien Tchouameni is dismissed from his duties and Raul Asensio, 21, is recalled from the academy. But this all seems like a temporary solution. But we need something solid. Skriniar is a very experienced and skilled defender who won titles with Inter and PSG. At the same time, he is outside the circle of the Parisian team, even if at 29 he is still capable of remaining at a high level for a long time. The Parisians won’t be too sad to let him go, and that’s a good thing for Real Madrid.
In exchange, Real could send Ceballos to Paris. He is trying very hard to gain a foothold in the base, but he is also only used as a patch. It is very possible that a change of scenery will help him. Luis Enrique knows what to do with players of his type, so PSG Ceballos can open up and gain a foothold, since Marco Asensio hasn’t been doing well so far.
Ryan Ait-Nouri (Wolverhampton Wolverhampton) and Tyrell Malasia (Manchester United)
This option sounds exotic, but if you think about it, it’s entirely realistic. Ait-Nuri plays for underdogs Wolverhampton, who aren’t having the best game. However, the left-back himself looks great. He’s the type of fiercely attacking full-back that Amorim needs Manchester Unitedwhere we now need to close the position with Diogo Dalot.
Arguably, Wolverhampton won’t shoot themselves in the foot in the middle of a survival fight and let such a player go. But if you look at it, Wolves have let go of a lot of talent in the last 18 months, from Ruben Neves and Mateus Nunes to Max Kilman and Pedro Neto. So it’s very much their style. Of course, Ait-Nuri is now expensive (estimated at £60m), so you could consider the option of a swap deal with an additional payment. Malasia, who hasn’t had much success at Old Trafford for over two years, could simply take that position at Wolverhampton, trying to revive his career.
