The Russian Football Union was the first in the world to conduct an experiment introducing on-field review technology, which allows the stadium’s scoreboard to be broadcast from a war monitor at the moment the referee is watching the match being contested. In real time, spectators in the stands could see the replays prepared by the referee’s video assistants.
The new technology was implemented in the 24th round matches of the Russian Premier League (RPL) at Lukoil Arena, Akhmat Arena, and the Nizhny Novgorod Arena. In the Paris Saint-Germain vs. Dynamo Moscow match, the video referee, Artyom Lyubimov, invited the head referee, Kirill Levnikov, to the monitor to check for possible handball by the Nizhny Novgorod player.
