Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane spoke about his work as assistant head coach of the Irish national team.
The ex-footballer was an assistant from 2013 to 2018 Martin O’Neill. During this period, the national team was able to qualify for Euro 2016 and qualify for the qualifying playoffs for the 2018 World Cup. Keane’s words are quoted by a source in reference to the Stick to Football podcast.
I look back on my whole career, the experience with Ireland, with Martin, and especially the Euros, it was probably the highlight of my career, which seems strange.
We always talk about the game – it’s all about the game, of course we love to play. But our stay in Ireland was probably the highlight. I just loved everything: the dynamics, the energy, the group.
Working with Martin and other team members, something was happening. There was a good mood factor. The guys were nice. Perhaps we were missing the main scorer. We lacked a little quality. All these things. But we arrived at the Euro, participated in the elimination matches (for having reached World Cup-2018). One of the best periods of my life.
