In April of last year, Manchester United player Joe Thompson was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma, which affected his lungs, five years after retiring from professional football. Thompson previously battled the disease twice during his playing career. The Red Devils statement read: He was a living embodiment of our club’s values. ❤️ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Thompson. He was a warm and outgoing person who, from a young age, was closely connected to our club. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
