Starting in 2026, a Korean professional football league will ban foreign goalkeepers from participating in the league. This decision was made at a recent board meeting.
In the mid-1990s, when most of the eight teams signed goalkeepers from the Legionnaire, the league imposed a restriction on the number of matches in which they allowed Korean goalkeepers to develop. In 1999, all K-League teams were banned from signing foreign goalkeepers.
