Former Zenit goalkeeper Kamil Chontofalski talked about the failed transfer to Chelsea.
It was 2009. Carlo Cudicini left Chelsea, the club was looking for a second goalkeeper. Petr Cech knew me and wanted me to join the team. Cech’s agent Viktor Kolář called me and asked if I wanted to join Chelsea. I said: “I don’t know.” He started shouting at me: “Yes, there would be a queue of goalkeepers lining up to get into such a club.” It was the end of the transfer window and Chelsea didn’t sign anyone. By the way, a few years earlier, Petr Cech had thwarted my move to Everton.
Even before Zenit in 2002, I could have moved to Everton for 40 million Czech crowns, but then Cech was bought for 150 million – I had more clean sheets than Petr. Then the Bohemians said: “We have the best goalkeeper in the Czech championship, we will give Chontofalski for no less than 150 million.” I had another opportunity to enter nuclear submarine: in 2005, Arsène Wenger liked me, there was interest from Arsenal London, but the transfer did not materialize.
