A match between English non-league clubs West Allotment Celtic and Seaham Redstar was called off after the pitch was covered in goose droppings.
The teams had a discussion on social media about the incident. Seaham Redstar have contacted fans to confirm their match has been postponed.
Host Coach Richard Stratton stated the following:
The referee gave the home team 15 minutes to clear the field, which was successfully achieved. However, the visiting team refused to play and the management claimed that their players did not want to play, which was later denied by the players themselves.
The official guest account responded:
Respectfully, it’s not our fault that your field was full of goose droppings. He should have been cleaned before we arrived, your post is factually incorrect, because we wanted to play, (the referee) said: “He is covered (in feces)”, at 8 p.m. he still hadn’t been cleaned.
West Allotment Celtic denied the claim:
With all due respect, you were asked if you wanted to play and you said no (which is totally fine, you were given the choice). The match was canceled at 7:05 p.m.
The club later released an official statement regarding the incident, noting that Seaham Redstar had told the referee that he believed the playing conditions were unsafe.
Following the match’s postponement, West Allotment Celtic were actively joking about the situation on social media.
