Eight-time Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande have lost their professional status.
On the evening of January 6, the club announced that the Chinese Football Association had not included it in the list of participants for the 2025 season. The team did not have enough funds raised to repay its debts.
The club won its last victory in the Chinese Super League in 2019. It has also won the AFC Champions League twice (2013, 2015). Since 2023, it has played in League One (the second strongest division).
