Midfielder Angel Di Maria announced he would no longer perform in Europe. The football player returned to Argentina, signing a contract with the team where he began his professional career.
On his social media page, the Argentine wrote:
Today is my turn to return home. My career in Europe is over. Many years have passed, I’ve played for many clubs, and I’m leaving with unforgettable memories.
I spent 18 years in Europe, where I not only enjoyed life in beautiful cities, but also in great clubs, among many wonderful people. I have many friends that I will always cherish in my heart. Each of the incredible moments I experienced made me who I am today. Furthermore, the falls, tears, anger, ups, and future, without a doubt, have become part of my growth and development in football as a person. I will never tire of thanking all the clubs I played for for everything they did for me: Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus – because they helped me grow as a player and as a person. At each club, I was lucky enough to find great teammates and staff (cooks, kit managers, physiotherapists, doctors, and all the people no one sees or knows, but who work tirelessly to help us). I will never forget them.
I arrived very young in 2007, with parents and sisters, with fears and insecurities, but little by little, I grew up, and today I am surrounded by their love, as well as the love of my wife and daughters. Thank you very much, Portugal, Spain, England, France, and Italy, for opening the doors of their countries to me.
