The sports court of the German Football Association upheld Bochum’s appeal against the result of the 14th round Bundesliga match with Union, which took place on December 14 and ended with a score of 1:1 . The club won.
The match was suspended in the 90+1st minute due to the visiting goalkeeper. Patrick Drewes was hit in the head by a lighter thrown by supporters of the Berlin team and was unable to continue playing. President of the sports field DFB Stefan Oberholz explained the solution:
We understand that overturning a match result should be a last resort. However, circumstances allowed few other options: Bochum was weakened through no fault of its own due to the inappropriate behavior of a Berlin Union supporter. In hindsight, we think the match should have been abandoned.
