Problems arose with the registration of Dani Olmo in the summer. Then they found a temporary solution: the midfielder was registered until December 2024 in place of the injured Andreas Christensen. The Catalans wanted to repeat the affair for the second half of the season – this time they were going to take advantage of the injury of goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen. Olmo was signed from Leipzig for 62 million euros just six months ago – and now he definitely won’t play for Barcelona in the second half of the championship. Some of them will definitely have to change teams. At the same time there is Ugarte, Diallo – it is already clear that they are suitable for the manager, they will build a team around them. And Olmo could become another important element.
Arteta seeks alternative to Saka
Flick mostly used Dani in the center of the pitch – but don’t forget that at Leipzig he often played on the flank. And in this regard, the versatile midfielder will be useful to Arsenal. Mikel Arteta values football players from all backgrounds – that’s why Kai Havertz started playing for him, and that’s why Gabi Jesus shoots every now and then.
Priorities are also influenced by necessity: the leader of the London attack, Bukayo Saka, recently retired through injury. The winger has already missed the games against Ipswich and Brentford and is expected to recover until March. Dani is fully capable of covering the right edge without loss of quality. Now the performer is quite productive (five goals in 11 matches in the Spanish championship). But, of course, the difference in speed will be noticeable – and Bukayo can shoot with both feet, which makes reading the game difficult. Olmo will have no such advantages.
The footballer is ready to wait for Barça
But all these options are available if the player himself wants to activate the corresponding clause of the contract and leave for free. In reality, Olmo doesn’t want to do that.
