Atlético Madrid football club expresses its deep concern about the situation of Spanish football following a resolution adopted on Wednesday by the Supreme Sports Council. We believe that this decision threatens the existing system, calling into question the rules of the game.
The Sports Law itself includes and protects the economic control of La Liga, but with this resolution it is threatened. The economic control of La Liga has been the main instrument that has allowed our football to become a solvent sector, a process recognized worldwide.
Our club, like all La Liga members before the adoption of this resolution, complied with the rules of economic control and will continue to do so. Indeed, in order to be competitive at the level we have reached in recent years, we have decided to carry out a number of capital increases, despite the enormous efforts that this entails.
This government intervention sets a very dangerous precedent, as it opens the door to a violation of the rules and the repetition of the serious mistakes of the past. Atlético Madrid remains committed to strong and responsible management. Without clear and equal rules for all, fair competition is impossible.
