Midfielder Franco Mastustiono Gave his first interview after his move to Real Madrid. In it, he told TYC Sports about his impressions of the move, as well as when Madrid first approached him.
It’s a very special moment in my life, in my career. I think many events have happened this year that have influenced me as a player and as a person. Joining Real Madrid—I think it’s just a dream. I’ve always said I dreamed of playing in Europe, but, of course, I’ve always dreamed of more—of Real Madrid. The fact that it happened, I consider it incredible.
The first time I spoke with them, it seems, was a year or a half ago. It didn’t go any further. It was a very good conversation, but nothing happened. Then I extended my contract with River. I played all of last year. At the beginning of this year, I had nothing else on my mind (except playing for River Plate). And midway through the year, Real Madrid came along, which obviously changed my mind, made me think, and showed that they treat me warmly and want me to be there. It was a dream come true for me; I saw that it was a very personal and beautiful challenge. Then I made a decision. It was midway through the year, everything was decided in a few days, but it was very pleasant.
Yes, I spoke with Habi (Alonso). He was really kind to me. The conversation with him also inspired me to make a decision. He called me and always spoke to me sincerely. It was very important to me. As I said, it’s not easy to leave River Plate. We all know that. But it became a little easier for me in the sense that he called me the way he did, and so I made a decision as well.
