An important milestone in Roma history.
While Juve and Inter are playing in the World Cup, the remaining Serie A teams have time to relax and prepare for the season. Roma is a club undergoing massive changes. The relationship with De Russia has splintered, and the season has turned into a nightmare. Ranieri saved him, but the time has come for active action. We tell you what’s happening with the team, which almost flew into the Champions League with courage.
Ranieri Stays with the Club
Claudio, even in the winter, stated that his appointment at Roma was a temporary measure, and after the end of the season, he planned to retire. This made sense. Claudio developed as a crisis manager, but never committed to building a monolithic project. Besides, they take their years—the specialist wanted to relax for a long time. At the same time, he couldn’t turn down his hometown club.
The specialist helped Jelerossi in many ways. He kept the team from falling apart and established a good atmosphere in the locker room, freeing up the players and boosting their rankings. Near the end of the season, Roma’s management began looking for a new specialist—and Claudio also helped them with that. It’s said the manager even spoke with Jan Pierrot Gasperini when his candidacy surfaced, which helped Roma win the battle for the Juve coaching position.
After that, it seemed Ranieri’s relationship with Roma was over. Next up: pension, cottage, grandchildren. But no. The Roma wanted to keep Claudio in the team, and the manager himself wasn’t opposed. Now, the specialist works as the club’s technical director (or advisor to the board, according to various sources, the position is called differently). For this reason, Claudio even refused to coach the Italian team.
For Jelerossi, this is a big plus. Ranieri may not have worked as an elite coach. But he has extensive experience with various teams and is dedicated to Roma. This will allow the club to competently approach the search for solutions and avoid situations like those with De Russia last fall.
Authority over the coaching position
Jan Pierrot Gasperini is a controversial option due to his approach to team management. Moreover, if the attitude towards his approaches is a matter of taste, then their great effectiveness is a given. The specialist brought the small-town club to the top. With him, Atalanta began to fight for titles, reached the Champions League, and at the end of the 24/7 season, won the Europa League.
It’s clear that the manager’s authoritarian style is exhausting. The Bergamo natives managed to delay the inevitable for a long time—but the cooperation drained everyone’s energy. Gasperini wanted a new challenge; the choice was between Juventus and Roma. Two projects at a crossroads, looking for a coach who would give them new meaning. Jan Pierrot turned out to be closer to Roma, and Claudio helped make that decision.
In any case, “Jelarossi” was found by the boss of the boss who will lead the project behind him. But whether this is the beginning of a great story or a path to nowhere, time will tell.
New Sporting Director
While the retention of Claudio Ranieri for Roma is an obvious plus, the situation with the sporting director is more of a minus. Florian Gisolfi worked in this position for only one season, and a very good one, albeit contradictory. Kuadio Horse and Artem Dovbik, whom the official signed last summer, found themselves in the starting lineup, while Matias Sule was also entrenched in the clip. He got rid of Abraham and brought in from the Salemakers; Alexis also became one of the leaders of the attack. Furthermore, it’s worth recording transfers after the appointment of Claudio Ranieri; they provided good depth to the team for the coach.
Nevertheless, they decided to part ways with the official. Frederick Massar, who had previously worked at Rennes and Milan, was invited in his place. And it’s an extremely ambiguous solution. Gisolfi may have questions about certain transactions and his inaction in certain personnel matters—but there’s even more to Massar.
Friedrich has a solid position at Milan. He arrived when the club was in crisis and market capacity was limited. Under these circumstances, the Rossoneri brought Pioly in as head coach and also found a good reinforcement for him. As a result, the team became Italian champions. But even then, there were instances of failure: the departures of Kessie, Chalkhanoglu, Donnarumma, and Romaniolio to free agents. These are painful losses.
But to this is added a failed period at Renna and the questionable experience at Roma. Massar’s skill level is clearly lower than Gisolfi’s, while the former looks good when working in tandem with a specialist who will lead. Gasperini is like this, this may be dictated by a bet on the trained massar. But, again, it’s a big risk.
We must fight the buyers
Taking particular account of priority tasks for the Roma. No one expected such a shock from the Romans – especially after the subsidence in the fall. Against this backdrop, many clubs flew into the “light” in search of the opportunity to step up.
Jedarossi this summer, first of all, must take back their players from annoying buyers. You can explain the transfer of Enzo Le Fi to Sanderland – the midfielder spent in the team the previous season, but on rent. The Romans did well without him, and they will receive 23 million euros. Nikola Zalevsky’s transition is from the same opera.
At the same time, doubts arise due to the search for a new team for two attackers at once, Eldor Shomurodov and Artem Dovbik entered the market (the new coach does not count on him). There are questions to both in the game plan, but they have brought advantages. In addition, “Jelarossi” may not have time to find a replacement for them – then the club will be without two competent strikers.
Now add to that the interest of the “sides” in Paredes, “al-Khilyaly” in Angelino and Mu With Tottenham at Ndik. The latter two are usually key figures in the Wolves backline. They offer a lot of money (20 million euros for the Spaniard and 40 years – for Evan). But it will hit the game. And even more so, it becomes more dangerous, given the sad context of Massar (remember the paragraph about Donnarumm and other Milan leaders).
Roma have good prospects, but we must determine with transfer targets
The Romans have achievements for transfer objectives. Given the desire to part ways with Dovbik and Shomurodov, it makes sense that they want a high-quality performer on the cutting edge. Jelerossi eyes ex-Zenita form Yuri Alberto, who now plays for Corinthians, also on the short list of Norwich’s Josh Sarzhen and Stuttgart’s Nick Voltemade.
The Roma’s priority objective is to strengthen the defense line. To do this, there are three candidates in the shortlist: Leonardo Baledi (Marseille), John Lukumi and Bekme herself (both Bologna). At the same time, in all cases (with defenders and attackers), the matter has not yet reached details, and time is running out.
“Roma” in the border situation. The club does not have enough resources to fight for the title – at the same time, restructuring is planned in Inter and Atalanta, Yuva did not grow with Conte (in the new season they will come with Tudor), Fiorentina, Lazio only became stronger, and Milan chose the contentious coach Allegry. In this situation, Jelerossi has an argument in the form of a solid foundation that Ranieri and Gisolfi have laid. The main thing is to work on time with an increase and go smoothly in the Gasperini era.
