Boavista will not be able to register as a participant in Ligue 2.
Based on last season’s results, the team crashed out of the first division, finishing last. Club director Karmelo Freil In an interview with The Source, he stated the following:
The first time this could have been resolved was in April, when, due to legal issues, it was not possible to complete a loan transfer worth approximately €2.5 million. This amount would be significant for registration. The second point relates to the €2.5 million transfer sent by Gerard Lopez (the club’s majority shareholder) on Monday, which did not reach the account on time (at midnight in that environment). Without this amount, we couldn’t register for Ligue 2.
Team president Fary Faye also noted:
“I don’t know the future, I don’t know where we’ll start. It took us by surprise; we didn’t count on any. Even today, I was in meetings about registering players for Ligue 2. We signed four, and two will be presented next week.”
Furthermore, the club’s president doesn’t know if the “failures” can appear in Ligue 3. Faye added:
“I’m completely devastated. I apologize; I didn’t think this would happen to us. We did everything possible to register Boavishta and obtain the documents, but the money didn’t arrive on time. We did everything we could. I love and respect Boavishta.”
In the 2000/01 season, Boavishta became the Portuguese champions.
