The team, under Roberto Martinez, defeated the Spanish national team (2:2, 4:3 in a penalty shootout) in the decisive match of the Nations League. The Portuguese became the winners of the tournament for the second time; in 2019, they defeated the Netherlands in the final with a score of 1:0.
