Russian national team goalkeeper Matvey Safonov enjoyed his first season at Paris Saint-Germain and shared the emotions of the club’s defeat in the World Cup final.

Ending a tournament with a defeat in the final is always difficult. Honestly, over the past year, I’ve already managed to forgive the bitterness of defeat. Nevertheless, even from negative experiences, it’s important to learn lessons. I hope this defeat will be a reminder to us that victories don’t come by themselves—they come from daily work.
As for me, it was a great first season in Europe: trophies, vivid emotions, new knowledge, and a huge amount of experience. Of course, I want to get more playing time. And that’s exactly what I can influence my work. Safonov joined PSG from Krasnodar last summer for €20 million. He played 17 games for the Parisian club, conceding 13 goals, and also failed to allow his opponents to score.
