Former Chernomorets president Sergey Shishkarev has informed journalists that the issue of possible manipulation of the result of the 34th round match of the Premier League against Sochi (2:1) has been closed.
On June 6, an investor who announced the dismissal of his financing company from the Novorossiysk Club, stated the team’s general director Maxim Ponomarev that before the match, he made an “attempt to manipulate the outcome of a football match” in a conversation with the players and coaches.
At the continuation of the Friday press conference, I would like to inform Chernomorets fans and journalists that I had a fundamental conversation with the general director of the Novorossiysk Club, Maxim Ponomarev. We discussed and examined the situation in detail, with an interpretation of his conversation with several players on the eve of the final match of the season against Sochi Football Club. There was no discussion about unsportsmanlike behavior by either team, and neither side raised any suggestions that go beyond the scope of sports ethics. The desire to fully understand the situation, as well as emotions, influenced the way the emphasis was placed. I can say that the contradictions between me and Ponomarev have been removed; we have no mutual complaints. The topic of possible manipulation of the outcome of the Chernomorets-Sochi match is closed and no longer a subject for comment.
Ponomarev, in a conversation with Tass, previously stated that Shishkarev’s statement was “shocking” to him and denied such a suggestion.
