Union Berlin Midfielder Andras Schäfer provided financial assistance to the Haladás Szombathely club.
The Hungarian team had previously called on its supporters to make donations before the end of the year due to financial problems. The club had to raise around 120,000 euros, otherwise it risked going bankrupt.
Initially, the midfielder donated $12,000, but while he was ultimately short around $24,000, the player donated that money as well. The footballer wasn’t the only former player to take part, others also helped save the day with their donations. The club thanked Shafer on social media, and he, in turn, posted a photo wearing a Haladash T-shirt. He played for the club at youth level from 2010 to 2014.
