Norwegian clubs voted on January 22 to cancel VAR.
This was preceded by a four-month consultation period with the participation of teams, players and supporters groups representing the first and second divisions of the national championship. 19 of the 32 clubs were in favor of cancellation. Based on the results of the vote, the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) was recommended to approve the results.
The NFF is expected to make a final decision in March, although the governing body could still overturn the vote, according to ESPN, citing sources.
The Norwegian top league introduced the system in 2023, but fans across the country have expressed opposition to the technology.
This season, a match between Rosenborg and Lillestrøm was canceled because fans threw fish cakes onto the pitch to protest VAR. Other matches were interrupted by champagne corks, croissants and tennis balls thrown onto the field.
