Former Nigerian national team goalkeeper Peter Rufai He died on July 3 in Lagos at the age of 62 after a long illness. This was announced by the country’s Football Association.
The goalkeeper made his debut for the national team in a friendly match in December 1981, and in 1984 and 1988, he won silver medals at the African Cup of Nations. In 1994, he won the tournament’s gold medal. He was the starting goalkeeper in three competitions.
Rufai also played at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, reaching the Super Finals in both cases with the Super Leagues. At club level, he played in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. After retiring from playing, he was the coordinator of the U23 team.
