The English Football League has announced that Sheffield Wednesday has been banned from purchasing players for three transfer windows.
The sanction was imposed due to payments being delayed by more than 30 days from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
In accordance with EFL rules, the restriction will apply throughout the current transfer window and the following two (winter and summer 2026).
The club has informed the EFL of its intention to appeal this decision, which will be considered in the prescribed manner.
Furthermore, on June 3, 2025, the EFL charged the club and its owner, Defon Chanciri, for the non-payment of player wages in March and May. This matter is being reviewed by an independent disciplinary committee. Source link
