The International Council of Football Associations has made changes to the “offside” rule following appeals from the Swedish club Thorns.
The third-tier team in 2023 posted a humorous video in which they drew attention to a loophole in the wording of the offside rules. They say that at the moment of the pass, the “first point of contact” is taken into account. This means that, in theory, you can hold the ball on your leg and then throw it behind your back to the defenders.

Initially, the legislative body rejected the request, but the persistence of the modest club forced them to admit it was “entertaining” and agree to a review of the wording. After a year and a half, the changes were actually made.
