During the Bundesliga match against Verder, the German Football League (DFL) and Stuttgart jointly tested the new media format.
Three special cameras—two on the edge of the field, one at the center line, and one in the exclusive VIP area—transmitted a 360° stereoscopic signal in a high 10k resolution and at a frame rate of 60 frames per second for virtual reality headsets.
Visitors to the Mercedes-Benz Business Center were able to try out the innovation, move to various positions and angles, and follow events in a 360° view, as if they were in the game.
Based on the tests with a club and the DFL, insights were gained that could be used to develop a possible future media product. The first such test took place at the 2024 Super Cup in Leverkusen, where Stuttgart faced Bayer. During this time, the technology was finalized and tested in various versions. The parties agreed to continue working closely on this issue.
In the next stages, additional camera positions will be tested and intensive work will be carried out on the signal transmission, distribution, and consumption technology.
